is it really…
made up?
Maybe It’s Made Up is an archival exhibition intended to showcase the history of the beauty industry and the beauty standards within it. My objective was to visually display how very little advertising has changed within the industry since the 1920s. For the past 100 years, this kind of imagery has pushed people to believe that their natural self is, in fact, not “good enough” and “perfection” is attainable through the use of their unnecessary, overpriced, and potentially damaging products. The industry profits off of making people believe that retouched images and illustrations are true to life and can be achieved.
Has anything really changed?
